I lose booster when I'm parking my rig in a tight spot. The brake light comes on and the ABS light comes on and the pedal goes right down to the floor; therefore, I have no brake boost. Is anyone else experiencing the same difficulty with a '96 Dodge with Cummins Turbo Diesel. I had no problem until I started towing a 36' Fifth Wheel. Any help would be appreciated. does anyone have afix or correction to this problem? applying brake pressuredoes not correct the problem. please help!!

When that happens to me that is usually plenty of pedal but it's a bit lower. It will still stop if you stand up on it. What happens is that the vacuum pump can't keep up with the demand if you brake a lot at idle. The later trucks have an hydraulic booster because of this. Just stop and let it idle a while to let the pump catch up.

Adding a small tank, 1ga or less, anywhere in the vacuum system will add to your vacuum capacity. Only problem will be it will take longer on start up to reach full vacuum. Short of converting to hydraulic assist your best bet is to do as Joe said, stop and let the vacuum rebuild.

Brake booster

AFranco, if your pedal goes all the way to the floor and you can't find any brake fluid coming from any of the wheels, your master cylinder is bypassing fluid inside and will have to be replaced. There may not be anything wrong with the booster, you will have to fix the master cylinder problem first then see if the booster is working ok. I doubt that towing the trailer had any thing to do with the master cyl. failing, it just caused it to show up. Good luck. bg
