Did front brakes on the 97 and was very happy that the new set of Napa pads didn't squeel like the original mopar pads that were on there... this lasted for about 100 miles... then I got stuck in a lot of stop and go traffic on the freeway and when I was home they squealed! I also had a 'hot brake' smell.

I'm afraid I overheated the pads before they were completely broke in. Is that possible? If so is there any fix now?

It sure was nice for a week with the brakes not making any noise.

What is the proper break in procedure for pads?

Brake pad break-in....

I thought I heard three quick stops from 50 mph with adequate cooling time in between. However... .

Your problem almost sounds like a sticking caliper. Did you do "anything" to the caliopers when you had things apart? I usually blow the calipers off... . pull open the dust seal and "drop" some brake caliper assembly lube in around the piston... . close the seal back up..... loosen the bleed screw and "collapse" the piston... . re-assemble the whole magilicuddy and pump the brakes up... . then refill the brake reservoir.

Hope you solve your problem!!!;)
