Bosch Quietcast rotors (no rust).

Just curious, how long have you been using them and how rust free are they?

I just installed the galvanized pads I linked above. Lots of manufacturers claim long life and no corrosion (on all parts, not just brakes). I don't think most test their components here.... with the exception of Fluid Film/woolwax.

My 7 year old OE rotors I just pulled off my truck. As crusty as they are They held up MUCH better than other brands...so I went with them again.

Stopped at a NAPA yesterday. Looked at their premium line rotors/pads and rebuilt calipers. Prices from just over 100 to 187 depending on level for one rotor. They carry Akebone too at this store and those were slightly higher than their premium line. Asked what the locals buy for their trucks since I live in a mountainous community. They say most of them buy the premium line but if you do not tow heavy the lower line is okay. Could not see much difference in the rotors except the better ones are coated and "made of better metals".. Their story anyway and made to NAPA specs on their premium line. Seems all are made overseas but he says Akebono made here. I'm thinking if my calipers are not corroded in any way of just rebuilding mine and then purchase the premium line or Akebono pads and rotors. Since the brakes don't pull to one side I was thinking refurbishing the rubber seals in the calipers might be sufficient. Have members done this or do you go with rebuilt? And are there any bleeding tactics I need to know?

I never did mine in the front, (NV5600 with Pac Brake. so no need service brakes often :D:D..) but have had friends who's calipers stuck shortly after replacing the front pads. Not sure if some corrosion / rust caused the issue internally but both guys replaced the OEM caliper with local parts house ones and never had a problem I will say after machining my rear rotors and new pads doing a bearing job, I had the RR caliper stick not to long after, luckily I was a mile from home so I got home with a lightly smoking wheel. Put a ROCK AUTO caliper on and never had another issue. Always ran OEM rotors... but again didnt really use the brakes up on her.

I just rebuilt the calipers on my 14 with a kit from Mopar. They are about as easy as it gets to rebuild. I'd go that route over remans. QC of remans has tanked over the years who knows how many times they been rebuilt. You know the mileage of yours. If not comfortable rebuilding I'd buy new....

Do you know if they also make a caliper rebuild kit for 3rd gens??

I ordered a set of 4 Mopar rotors for my 20006 and a set of the Mopar pads What I received were Maynards! When I called Genos I was just told that they were good quality. Felt like it was a take it or leave it situation. No offer to let me return them for a credit and I was left to believe that I would have to pay return shipping costs. I was VERY surprised as I have never had anything like this happen before. Would have expected a call or phone call form Genos about the substitution before they shipped.

Were they Magnetti Marelli?

If so, those are the "value" line of Mopar products. The Premium line carries the Mopar branding and are better quality but both products fall under the Mopar banner. Magnetti Marelli is Mopars way of competing with the aftermarket.

I'm not sure, if they do you should be able to find it here.

Many had great results with Remans, me included.
I think I had the ones from Raybestos. Nothing to complain about. For the price of Remans i wouldn't touch a caliper anymore to do a DIY rebuild, same for rotors to turn.

Parts discontinued often means they were superceded someday in the past.

Not sure how many reman parts you've bought in the US Ozy.... there's some real junk out there. I avoid pretty much anything reman if I can help it. A Caliper rebuild kit through Mopar cost me $25 vs $100 for a caliper. Two pistons, seals and dust boots. Everything you would get in a reman caliper anyhow.... Thats $150 in my pocket (both sides) for about 2-3 hours work including bead blasting and painting.

To each their own...

I do agree turning rotors isn't worth it. If I lived somewhere else I might think different but they just rust too bad around here. The cooling fins corrode and lose their ability to dissipate heat.

JR,
Sorry for the delay. I live in Southern California about 5 miles from the coast so we probably have one of the best rust free environments for cars. I put the quiet cast rotor on the back about a year and three months ago and it looks great. Not the best photo but I’m not taking off the wheel.

I always do OEM rotors and then use a ceramic brake pad to keep rust down. It's been a good, proven combo for me! The OEM rotors last forever too.
