2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake calipers?

I took the brake calipers off a truck that hasnt been moved or drove in a long time for my 95, anyway i took them off to paint and to replace the brake pads. My problem is that i need to compress the cylinder just a little bit to get it to go onto the rotor. I tried beating it and putting a c-clamp on it but no luck. Do you guys have any other tricks or just find some different calipers? Thanks.

Make shure to crack open the caps on the resivoir. If you hoses are old, they may be deteriated inside preventing fluid from returning to the resivior. Also, check for a pinched seal around the piston as you compress it into its bore.

Alert!!!!!

Beware!!!!!

Avoid pushing the old brake fluid back into the master cylinder.

Before you attempt to compress the caliper loosen the bleeder on the caliper.

Then gently compress the caliper.

Don't forget to close the bleeder upon full compression of the caliper piston.

If the caliper pistons are "froze up" /"stuck".

Please do yourself a favor and replace the calipers with rebuilt or new units.

I prefer the " fully loaded " calipers.

Be sure to replace the pins/bolts and the rubber bushings.

Thanks guys i went ahead and bought new ones. I figured if i am pretty much redoing this whole truck i might as well not skimp on the little things.
