Charging trailer batteries

Wifey presented me with a new Tekonsha prodigy brake controller. They were out of the wiring harness for the Dodge. Do I need their harness or can I use the same harness I am using on the one I have now? At present I have the Draw-tite model. Wanted to know before I try to get this thing put in. I have heard these are close to the best so any help is appreciated.

You can use your original with no problem. I just replaced a Kelsey Hayes wih the Prodigy and really love it. It is so smooth I constantly check to make sure it is connected.

Wiring

The wiring harness that you have now is it the one that came with the truck? If it is I can PM you a wiring code list that Techonsha sent me telling which wires go together since the colors do not match.

Thanks,

Eric

Elamb, I assume it is the one that came with the truck. I had it put in by the dealership while I stayed at the campground in the travel trailer. We were on vacation when I bought the truck. You can e-mail me if you like. I have the trailer at the farm. I may need to wait till I bring the trailer home in the middle of January. I would hate to hook it up and go get the trailer and something not be right.

Okie,

The brake controller pigtails that came with my 1996 and 2002 trucks had the functions tagged on each wire. The Tekonsha Prodigy will either have the functions tagged on each of its wires or will detail them in the instructions. There are only four wires to worry about: B+, B-(or ground), brake light and trailer brakes, so if all else fails, you can pick up a spare pigtail from just about any trailer hitch dealer or your friendly Dodge dealer and wire it up yourself with no problem. Just be sure to match the wires by function and NOT by color.
