Anyone hauling from Sioux Falls SD back East?

Towing a boat behind a 5th whell

I would really like to get the brakesmart but they are out of stock for at least a few months, just called.

I'm proably going to go with the prodigy.

1. Does it have a manuall brake button where you hit it and it activates the brakes?

2. Where is the best place to mount it so that it is our of the way and looks decent? I've got the 6 speed.

Thanks

1. Yes, it has the knob underneath so that you can energize brakes manually.

2. I put mine where the ashtray is but I think I am going to move it to the cubby behind the shifter.

I've got my Prodigy in the cubbyhole behind the shifter so when and if I need to grab the lever it is very handy. Many mount them on the knee bolster, but the last thing I want to do when and if I need to apply max trailer brakes in a hurry is bend forward and reach down there... . The left side of that cubbyhole is great.

I did in the knee bolster. Mounted it just enough out of the way of the hood latch. Actually drilled holes and bolted it in. I didn't want to find it on the floor one day. Wanted to mount it over in the console somewhere, but the cables were not long enough and I hate double splicing.

GerryDrake,

Which cubbyhole did you mount the controller in? The one just behind the base of the shifter or the one where the seat heater controls go? I thought about both but ended up mounting on the knee bolster as Clayton's photos above show since I just needed it for a quick trip but wanted to look for a better location.

Thank you

Where

I don't have seat heaters, so can't comment on that.

From top to bottom there are basically four levels on my dash, the first three being of approximate same size.

Top is Radio

Second is heater controls.

Third is an empty cubbyhole with a rubber mat in the bottom.

The left half of that is where I mounted mine. It sticks out 1 1/2 to 2 inches. I removed the panel and cut a hole inthe back corner so the wires reach down to the plug in location easily. No splicing necessary.

Fourth level down is the ashtray on the left and a 2/3 wide cubbyhole on the right. I redid my ashtray and the cool down timer is mounted in their. When the door is closed, it is not visible.

I am gathering that with heated seats that the cubbyhole I used is filled with those controls?...

I posted a pic in my reader's rigs area. Gerry

I mounted mine about where Claytons is. Maybe a inch or so higher up on the panel. I can't see it with the wheel tilted and going straight so I will be relocating soon.

I have a Tekonsha Commander and mounted it on the left side of the knee bolster just to the right of the Brake release. It is mounted parallel to the floor board. It was the easiest place for me to see the LED's when they light if the steering wheel is straight. I don't remember who made the comment but it was an excellent observation about reaching down and forward to apply manual pressure/control of the brake controller. My face would be a couple of inches from the steering wheel. A real windshield taste test if you weren't careful. Just my 2 cents.
