I,ve had my new truck for a couple weeks and already have brake dust on the front wheels starting at about 400 miles. Is this out of the ordinary? What can be done? Thanks.

Bob

My 2001 is the same. I'd rather have the dust than too much metal in the pads eating the rotors. Maybe Dodge has gone to softer pads trying to address the brake pull problems some of us have?

I picked up my truck wednesday the 18th and I have just over 300 miles on it. Yes I have brake dust too. I am thinking about going to the "Kleen Wheels". I just haven't made up my mind yet. They act like a inner hub cap and vent the brake dust in instead of out on the rims. I just don't know if they will make the brakes HOTTER ie not cool as well, as without them.
Brakes are one of those things that I will pay the big bucks for to make sure they work when I want them to. It is a pain in the Butt but I would like to know my truck will stop when desired.
If anyone has put some miles on the Kleen wheel product and can let me know I'm wrong that would be great. I to have other things to do than wash that ugly STUFF off 4 rims (2500 2001. 5).
Sitting and drinking a cold beer is one of the first. At home of course.
Thanks
Chris

You're lucky you didn't buy a Durango. A friend of mine owns one and can see just a hint of brake dust about 10-20 miles after he washes it (factory alloy wheels). They look downright nasty after about a week or so. #ad

I added Kleen Wheels (from Geno's Garage) when I added my M/T Alcoa wheels. #ad

With all the weight no the front end, yes your gonna get alot of brakedust, I washed my truck on Thursday, went to work and back on Friday and by Saturday evdence of dust is appearing (also drove to Kansas City on Saturday).

Its a bummer, but yes its normal.

Chris, go with the Kleen Wheels dust shields, they work great. I have towed my 10,000# travel trailer over 4,000 miles and have never had a brake fade with my new Ram. Best place I found to buy them locally was Advanced Auto.

Thanks Stan. I will check them out on Monday. I washed and rubbed down my baby today and just the run up to Rocky Mount and back I had that ugly dust, as to be expected more so on the front than the back.
On another subject I havn't made up my mind if I will be going to the TENN ralley the 4th and 5th yet. I will let you know one way or the other.
Thanks again
Chris

I think a lot of the dust can be attributed to the alloy wheel design. The openings are larger and the shape allows air to be pulled threw for better cooling. Just a thought. Also, have the rear brakes adjusted at every other oil change.
