I went to leave this morning, put the truck in gear, and the left rear brake didnt let loose, also sometimes it grabs real hard when stopping, enough to lock up in some cases. There is no grinding, sound, but I like having to shut the truck off to verify that. It also does not seem too hot after a long drive. Any help?

Mine does that too (locking up when stopping). Usually, it happens when it is raining (although not always). I have not noticed it locking up when parked. I have been watching for posts with an answer to this problem but haven't seen any. I don't have any help for you other than to let you know you are not the only one.

Just something to check--

I have a 97 and mine did this once in a while. It would also grab when you touched the brakes going down the highway. Turned out to be a leaky axle seal. You couldn't see the seal leaking until you pulled the drum off. When I did that the brakes were saturated. Axles seals are cheap and easy to replace. I hope this isn't the case, but with it does happen until you put the good seals in.

some brake linings on the market are moisture sensitive, grabby for the first few stops when cold or damp. the only way to cure it is to change bands. some are worse than others. since the asbestos ban we don't have the choices we used to. if you can live with the grabbing it won't cause a problem.

Its your axle seal, I'll put money on it. I've changed my driver side 4 times in 100k. Sticky brakes when cold is common then when they heat up a little it goes away.

I just had my brake drums off when I rotated my tires. The axle seals are good; no leakage. I think Sam's diagnosis is correct. I'm not going to worry about it.

The betting man wins here! Axle seal on drivers side was leaking, a couple hours and new brake shoes cured that problem and then some. Shes good as new.
Thanks for all the input

My 97 was leaking and doing the same thing too. With all the updates those seals have gone through just since mine was new, it's worth replacing both of them even if only one is leaking. Murphy's law.
