I just had my frt. end realigned, tires rotated and brakes checked. Still have over 50% of the brakes left on the original shoes.
My truck has 76k miles, 40k pulling a 14,000 lb 5th. whl. using a Pac Brake.
How long do the brakes last? I read of others with worn out brakes at 25k miles.

Mine lasted about 40,000. I had the pull problem. . so the one side was much worse than the other.

Mine are still fairly good after 61K, more highway driving than city. I plan to change both front and rear brakes before the end of summer. After I added the 3500 rear cyls. the rears are wearing faster and wouldn't last through a new set of front pads.

Yeah, I've heard all the talk about short brake pad life. I've always wondered how those folks drive. I've still got about 1/4 left on the originals at 79,850 miles. I drive it daily, a fair amount of towing, lots of hills (my daily drive involves a 2000 ft climb and descent over a pass with 5 miles of 7% grades on each side). One of these days, I'll be able to afford an exhaust brake, then I suspect my brake pads will last forever! #ad

My pore ole 96 V-10 dually still has the original pads & shoes at 43,500 miles, most of which have been spent pulling a 5ver.

I replaced the front pads at 45k and 90K. Did nothing to the rotors. About 1/2 the mileage is with my camper on.

Replaced the rear shoes at 110,000 miles. Shoes were barely worn, but had tiny hairline cracks and were a bit glazed. Drums were turned.

111,000 miles and counting.

I go through front pads annually. I also just had my rear shoes done 2 weeks ago at 68K - not because they were low on lining, but because they had suffered some heat cracking and glazing. Interestingly, after the 4 wheel brake job, the truck stops better than it ever did. No pull, no ABS drama.

On my 97, I got 80k out of the first set of front pads, and at 125k still have the original rears. I've checked them several times, and decided last time I would check them again at about 130k, but they might even go longer, still quite a way from the rivets. Lots of hiway miles & a lock up switch to help with normal slowdowns. I also move shifter from "D" to "N" at about 10 mph at red lights, makes stopping easier, seems to take a lot of brake to finish off the stop in "D".

Changed the orginal front pads at 95k. Still had life left. Rears changed at 150K. Pretty well worn. I do adjust the rears quite often. I now have 100K on the second front set and they have a little life left in then.

90k miles and I'm still running factory brakes. Time to check them though, last time was about 78k but they looked good.

I'd really like to know how you're able to get all those miles out of those pads.

On Monday I've changed the brake pads ( again). They were worn out in 4. 300 Miles.
Other than driving slower, do you have any suggestion?
Marco.

Marco, I imagine that Italy's traffic must be a lot of stop and go. These CTD are heavy rigs and require a lot out of the brakes and clutch to stop and go. 4300 seems pretty excessive though, are your rears working? You might want to try a manual adjustment on them.
