Brake lights come on with clutch pedal

Brake lights work fine, but also come on with clutch pedal, any help. #@$%!



1992 W250 reg cab, 5 speed, 346,000 miles

Put your toe under the brake pedal and try the clutch, probably just moving enough to make the brake light come on. Might have to adjust the brake light switch. bg

Dash warning brake light, or tail lights?

Tail lights. They come on 100% when clutch is all the way down, but intermitent through the pedal travel, but work just fine with the brake pedal.

I would look at the wiring fo rthe brake pedal switch. It sounds like the insularion may be rubbed off and is resting in the clutch pedal.

I would have to agree. There is no where else those two lines cross.

... or worn pedal shaft bushings... pushing the clutch pedal in makes the shaft move forward in the bores until it reaches the floor, then it moves back in the bores if you press hard enough, moving the brake pedal at the same time... ... They tend to do that after half million miles or so... . my '89 and '90 both did it over time... .

It was the bushing, i watched when I pushed the clutch and could see the brake pedal moving, a little short of half a million though, I'm at 348k

Maybe you're not as rough on things as I am... Glad to hear you got 'er fixed so she can keep on truckin', though!!Oo.
