My front rotors are starting to crack and I need new pads and shoes. I would like a step by step procedure for changing pads and shoes. I would also like to know how to change the rotors. Is there a tech artical somewhere or anyone that would be nice enough to share with me how to go about doing this procedure. Also, Is there anything that I need to do beside change the pads, shoes, and rotors (adjust brakes, bleed brakes, seals, grease, etc. ). Thanks for the info.

I would go to your local auto parts store and get the hayes service manual for your year truck. Only about 15. 00 and it has a detailed section on brakes. I have found it very handy since i was a ford owner and didnt know much about dodge or cummins.

I thought about that but wasn't sure if the hayes manuel would be detailed enough. How much better is the service manual than the hayes manual?

service manual

I use the D. I. Y. online manual service from ALLDATA. Works great, costs 24. 95 for the 1st year and 14. 95 after that. They update it all the time, which includes TSB's. Pretty complete manual, with lots of DC info. It also includes wiring diagrams, vacuum hoses, etc. It seems a little expensive, but I think it is worth it . Also, it only costs 14. 95 to add any other vehicle. (I work on other peoples cars/trucks from time to time and am able to add a vehicle quickly when I need to)

I changed pads, rotors and calipers on my 98 two weeks ago. I used the Hayes manual but I also looked at the last TDR magazine, there is an artilcle near the front that talks about a front end job that has lots of good tips. I was pretty easy. The Hayes manual is definatly worth the cost, and I would reccomend it.

Good luck!
