brake pads what is good?

Anyone know of a good aftermarket brake pad that is a least as good as OEM but cheaper?



My front pads need replacing one to many hard stops with a load I guess.

I always had good luck with Performance Friction products. They seem to have good friction characteristics and don't kill your rotors.

I got a set of ceramics from NAPA on my 01, loved them. They stopped much quicker and seemed to cool quick. The only thing I didn't like was that they would sqeel a bit if you were soft on the brakes for extended periods.



I think the pads were $105, and they had a lifetime replacement.

I can give you a few names of Good,Quality pads, but none of them are cheap. The brakes are one of those areas were cheap shouldn't take presidents over good. They are responsible for stopping you your truck and what ever load you have. They are assigned this duty for thousands of miles, and most work perfectly every time you call upon them. This is not an area for Cheap anything, this should instead be an area where you try and buy the best parts available.

I like the EGR pads and shoes, they are the only ones I have used on a Dodge/Cummins. I have used PowerStop's 911 pads on other truck with good results.

I love Raybestos "QS" series, but not sure if they're available for these trucks (yet?). Can find them at many places. I got them from Auto Zone, but got strange looks at first (they don't sell to many, cause they're pretty pricy), but they did have them.

sorry did not mean to say I was a cheap skate on this. The factory pads worked great and lasted what I consider a reasonalbe life. I see no need for super high dollar race pads that do not last as long but stop great for that short life. kinda want to find the life and stopping power of stock without having to go to dealer to find them. I think I may try those Raybestos as I have an AutoZone near my office.

I've been very happy with Performance Friction carbon metallic pads on both my truck and my bike. They are available from autozone - are reasonably priced and have a lifetime warranty. They stopped much better than the stock pads and lasted just as well. When it was time to replace them they swapped em out no questions asked.

Issue 41 of the TDR magazine mentioned Performance Friction and Hawk as two good brands. [there are others] Brakes are one thing that cannot go on feel. The article states that HEAT FADE is one important area to consider. It also states that how the pedal feels can have little to do with good heat fade or quick stopping characteristics.

I had the performance frictions on my last truck ('99). They were fine, but I was worried about them being too hard & chewing-up the rotors. I trust the R. B. Q/S, but again, they might not be available for these trucks (I've used them for a Blazer & Astro van). It seems the price was more like $60/set

I have had no excessive rotor wear with PF pads on both vehicles that I put them on. FYI and YMMV

You may want to read the fine pring on brake pads, teh last time I looked at it, the lifetime warranty excluded diesel trucks.

EIS made one of the best pads I have ever used on my 95, but Wagner bought them out and did away with there pad. I used the best Wagner had to offer and they were pretty good.

MOPAR!!!!! lifetime pads are a POS, they eat rotors but hey they are lifetime!!!!!

Okay search has turned up only one brake band aWagner from O'Riley's auto parts. Raybestos no front brake pads made yet, Performance Friction no front brake pads.



Looks like I am going with the Mopar pads.
