having a problem with the brake pedal pushing back at me under moderate to heavy braking at mostly low speeds (25mph or less). after a certian point the brakes seem to quit braking as hard, and then pedal pushes back, at which point i have to really push the pedal down to regain the stopping force that i was previously was applying. i do not have four wheel abs, supposed to have rear wheel abs, but it doesn't work very well. i am not sliding any tires when this happens, nor do i think that it is the abs that is attempt to engage. i am not sure what is going on. any opinions?

also i have heard the little canister on the master cylinder is a nitrogen charged cylinder that needs replaing over time, any thought on that??

My 99 did this... it started all of a sudden and it also made the brakes very touchy... it was very hard to drive... .

I sat in a parking lot and very forceably applied the brakes repeatedly... I figured it was already broken, couldn't hurt it anymore than it was already...

It must have been a stuck valve in the hydroboost system because it went away... this was at about 75k... it never came back and I traded at 201k.
