I have a 96 with 115,000 miles, I noticed about a year ago the brakes just didn't seem as good as they were. I replace the front and rear linings, installed the bigger rear slave cylinders, flushed the system and bled the brakes about 4 times each to make sure I had good clean fluid through the system.

The problem is the brakes fade, not during normal driving but in a panic stop or when I am pulling something heavy. Also just sitting still and appling the brakes hard, the peddle will fade slowly to the floor. There are no leaks.

By "fade" the way it sounds like you mean the pedal fades away during heavy stop requirements.

I would replace the master cylinder. It can allow fluid to leak by without visible external leakage.

Look at the seal between the master cylinder and the booster tank. If you don't see fluid going anywhere as cojhl2 said, it could be going into the booster tank.

Same on my truck until I replaced the M-Cyl. Got one @ Autozone "new" w/reservoir $109. Make sure you bench bleed before installing - block of wood between the pedal and floor to limit pedal travel so as not to blow out the seal.

Thanks for the replies. Everyone confirmed what I suspected. I just didn't want to here the word booster $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

If the seal between the M-cyl and the booster was leaking I would be looseing fluid out of the resevior but it always remains the same, never have to add fluid.

I'll replace the master cylinder

Thanks
