I am fixing to have to change rotors all the way around. Can not have them turned anymore so I was looking at improving what I have or getting something better. I have searched and see that some like power brakes or others and was thinking of possibly trying them out. I have been using OEM pads along with Bosch rotors just asking if there is something better.

P.S.: I cattle and sometimes horses for my daughter if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for any information!

So how many miles did you get from your oem rotors and pads??

The reason I ask is that I got 100k out of my first set of OEM pads with minimal dusting and NO squealing, all the time while driving everyday on mountain roads, sometimes pulling a loaded trailer. At 100k Ii was ready for new pads, but the rotors were still true and only half worn. I slapped another set of mopar premium pads on, already have another 35k on them, and should be good to go for another 100k.

When THEy wear out, you can betcha I'm gonna get the Mopper premium pads and rotors again, though not necessarily from my local dealership.

In short, while you CAN get more aggresive braking from other pad/rotor combinations, NONE of them do it for as long as the OEM pads that came with the truck seem to do.

I like Bosch rotors. They don't rust and they stay true.
I do not like Mopar pads and I remove them long before they're worn because they lose effectiveness and require more and more pedal effort.
There are a number of better choices out there that deliver far superior performance under all conditions.
I agree that they wont allow the rotors to last as long. I don't care how long my brakes last.
When I'm coming down a mountain pass with a heavy trailer and a deer runs out in front of me, the last thing I'm concerned about is rotor wear. I want every bit of stopping power I can get and I don't care about anything else.

I've got 260,000 on my truck and have used Bosch rotors with Mopar pads. I believe I've changed the pads two or the three times to one compared to rotors.

Sounds about right.

If you have been happy with your truck's brake performance and life, then I suggest sticking with he Mopar "Premium" pads and Bosch rotors.

If not, there ARE more aggressive pads available that come at a cost of more frequent pad and rotor change intervals. I'll bow out now as I have no experience with those.

Please DO note the the "Premium" pads are a very different beast then the "Value" pads that most dealerships try to sell you at a lower price.

Here are the part#s for the oem Premium pads--

05093267AA full set — Premium FRONT Disc Brake Pads
05093257AA full set — Premium REAR Disc Brake Pads

I really appreciate it! I believe I'll stay with those then...just was seeing if there was something to all these slotted and drilled rotors along with the pads.

I had slotted/drilled rotors on my 2nd gen, I found them very annoying due to the swishing sound they made while coming to a stop. I went back to solid rotors long before those wore out.

From what I have read, slotted/drilled rotors are good for anything making quick, repeated hard stops because they let gasses escape that casue the pads to float against the rotors (in theory). Their down side, besides price, is they have less surface area for the pads to run against so during that first application they don't stop as hard as solid rotors (again, theory). And Grants post certainly brings up another potential negative.
So for a HD truck that may have to stop hard for a traffic hazzard or just apply the brakes a few times coming down a hill, it can be argued that the solid rotors are a better choice.

i just put on the OEM rotors with the mopar premium pads. I thought i read somewhere Bosch makes the OEM. Boy was i disappionted to see made in China on the OEM rotors. Also the box fell apart in shipping and the rotors got dinged up. Anyway no time to return em. Need my truck. Having new brakes are fricken awsome thou. Next time i may try the Bosch brand rotors

Just FWIW .02$ etc.

2005 QCSB NV5600 Not in commercial service, one driver 210,000 miles. All brake components OE, nothing replaced.
