I'm at changing my rear brakes shoes, drums and hardware.
All the pins, springs and levers was so rusted that when I finally achieved to take the drums off, all the hardware fell off...
I find the service manual poor in pictures and diagrams for our brakes. I think I've figured out where all the springs and levers are going, but with few questions remaining :

- There's a small part in the hardware kit (see picture) that I can't find in the set-up. Someone knows where it is going ?

- The other picture shows all the hardware and the shoes. It's the left side (driver). Can someone confirm that the green spring goes on the right (secondary shoe) ?

- The springs have colours but it would be great if the service manual was using the color codes to help assembly. I've been searching for a colored diagram for the 2500 rear drum brakes but didn't find one. There's a few for the 1500 but the set-up is not exactly the same. Anyone has one ?

Thanks !

Well not much help here. The piece in the top picture is the cover for the adjustment hole in the back plate, should be on the outside? The spring arrangement looks ok to me. What is the black spring in the middle, the e-brake cable? I never ran into colored springs on the hold downs. Probably the strongest on the secondary as it is in more stress when the brakes are applied. bg

Found this from a thread of mine in Dec 2015.

This is a correctly assembled LH brake assembly on the truck.

BG Smith, yes, the long black spring in the middle is for the e brake cable.
For the little metal part, I did not thought about a cover since they are rubber parts on my truck.

Mwilson, thanks for the picture (how have I missed that ?), it confirms that the green spring is going on the primary shoe (since it is longer than the yellow, it makes sense)
