2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake Squeal

When rolling at or near an idle pace, I hear a noticably loud squeal the sounds like it is coming from my drivers side rear brakes. The truck has 26K on it, however I bombed it last summer and had to get the brake torque thing out of my system. I have the rear wheels off right now and without having pulled the calipers (yet). The pads still appear to be in decent condition.

Are there wear tabs on the factory pads that would make the squeal?



Is there anything else I should be looking for?



If I have to pull the calipers, the manual references tool #C4212F fopr compressing the caliper. Is this really necessary or is there a work around to using this tool?

Yes, there should be tabs for wear indicators. No, you don't need a special tool to push the pistons back in. If you have a regular C-clamp, it will work. If you don't have one, a disc brake pad spreader can be had for pretty cheap. http://www.lislecorp.com/tool_detail.cfm?detail=266 Put on of your old pads in place to push against. Loosen your bleeder screw FIRST before pushing them back in.

I just stopped mine from squeaking this week end. I put duct tape on the back of each brake pad (set the tape on the back of the pad and trimed the rest off with a razor blad). I remember reading out this tip from one of our members previous posts. I had previously tried to quite them down with those rtv type stop squeal products, but they didn't last.



Today for the first time in the last 6 months the truck is squeak free.



By the way during install I used one of the pads and a c clamp to push the two pistons back ( and also the two mounting bolt sleaves). Instead of opening the bleeder valve I just made sure the brake fluid resevoir cap was open.



Worked great.

Mine squeaked for about 2 weeks @ 24000 miles and then went away, pads/rotors are still in great shape... . ??????
