Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) brake switch question.....

my trans was going in/out of lock up about 6mo. ago. a new tps and brake switch fixed it.....



now the problem is back. new tps. no fix. new trans temp sensor. no fix. all wiring and grounds checked. the problem was real bad this time. the trans temp sensor seemed to fix it.



now when i go over a moderate bump, i get the wacky rpm flucuation... . could it be my brake switch? the service manual is thin on this topic. can the brake switch be adjusted? could it be too sensitive??.....

It's Adjustable

Push on the brake pedal with one hand, pull the plunger out of the switch with the other. It will "ratchet" out. When you release the pedal it will push the plunger in to the right spot. Takes 2 seconds.

I have been tinkering with this problem for about two years now, and found out the other night that the contacts on the TPS wire harness had become gunked up or partially corroded.



This is how it went, was having problems with the hunting in and out of overdrive, pulled the plug on the TPS and sprayed with WD40 and took a small pick and closed each of the three terminals up a little, worked great for a couple of months, no dropping out of overdrive even on bad bumps.



Well it came back, So just for the heck of it, I packed the terminal with grease and reinstalled it. No overdrive at all. Removed the connector again, and ran a 5/32 allen wrench inside of the terminal to clean all of the grease off the contacts. I had to keep spraying it with WD40 and run and clean the allen wrench inside the contacts several times. Took the pick and made sure that the contacts were a little tighter. No more unlocking on even the harshest bumps.



Be careful with the pick when tightening the contacts, and don't stab yourself.

I was cosidering taking the TPS harness out of the loom, and decided that I don't need it. Since I did the work I described above, I haven't had one case of the TCC unlocking. Shifting up and down shifting just like it should. Bad bumps, no problem, it stays locked up.
