Ok. I've about had it with the brakes on this thing. When I first got it, it stopped ok, didn't pull, and drove streight down the road. Before I was going to pull stuff with it I thought it best to check out the brake system. Well, it needed new rotors, brake lines, pads, rear wheel cylinders, and shoes. The price to get loaded calipers wasn't that much more that just pads, so I got the loaded calipers. After doing all the work it now has a slight pull to the right, pulls to either side while braking (flip a coin as to whice side it will pull to each time) Doesn't stop any better and feels like it has a bit of air still in it (even after bleeding the you know what out of it).

What am I doing wrong.

Bvanetten, I had the same problem. things to check;

1. check the calipers in their slides for equal resistence. I had to file these a bit.

2. make sure the rotor is clean at it's mounting points.

3. make sure your ABS valve is working. with the engine off push on the peddle 'hard'. can you hear a hissing sound? if so the valve is bad. The valve is behind the rear axel up in the inside frame rail.

hope this helps. ---dave--

Yeah, I know what you mean about the calipers. I had to file a bit also. When you say "make sure the rotor is clean at it's mounting points" do you mean where the rotor attaches to the hub? ABS? heh heh heh! My truck is a conversion so I don't have the ABS wires hooked up. If the ABS isn't hooked up will it work like a manual system and allow the rears to lockup?

Bruce

Bvanetten, Yes on the rotor mounting. But even though the ABS is not hooked up it can still mess up. On mine I made a plug to disable my accumulator. And no, I don't have ABS anymore. I'm not bragging but I don't need em. Been racing too many years. Ever see ABS on a nascar? Or a sprint car?

good luck --dave--

Ok. Cool. That's what I needed to know about the ABS valve. I'll look into it this week. How much brake fluid did you have to run through your system to get all of the air out?

Bruce

How much brake fluid? Well, now that you mention it I'm not sure but I know it wasn't more than a quart because that's all I had on the shelf.
