A wierd thing has begun in my truck. When the truck is cold and I use the brakes the first couple of times they are as touchy as one can get, with very little pedal effort. After about 15-20 min around town they need more pedal push and are not as crisp. The rears where set up about 10k ago and the fronts where turned and new pads (raybestos super stops) about 20k ago. Could this be bad fluid ? I am the second owner of the truck and have logged about 40k on it personally. Mostly long dis driving. Any suggestions? (ps "K"s are kilometers, Canadian dude :D

Mine are exactly the same when wet. I'm thinking that some kind of oil has gotten in or on the drums or disks. When you first start out they are touchy until the brakes get a little warm. One of my projects to do.

Mine do the same thing when the brakes get worn down quite a bit. I haven't found a good fix for it other than changing the brakes, it's just hard to talk yourself into it if they aren't worn down real far... ...

PS. I also notice is worse when wet or real humid out.

Bwilson,

I gotta ask, Any problems in the 400k miles? Thats like 65+k a year. A mans gotta have a butt with no feeling or love his truck to drive like that.

Mr. Daneils,

Hows the weather up there must be coming into that great season called fall. Cool nights and that damp smell you get in the bush at hunting season. And hows the truck been running since the minor KDP catastrophy? Cheers,

Everything has been pretty expected until the last month or so when I have had to replace both grid heater relays, transfer case, power steering pump, power steering gear assy, vacuum pump, and the driveshaft carrier bearing (original U joints though). Before then it was everything as expected, 5th gear took a break around 200K which is about the same time the evaporator core went toes up. I changed the right front hub assy, twice (the first one was free though), one front axle seal, two rear, 3 ball joints, and all of the tie rods once. Funny you ask now as the last month has pretty much sucked. I think I'm doing more wrenching than driving but I keep telling myself, "You won't have to do this for at least another 400K"

Let's hope!!!!

Your problem =symptom is that brakes grap in morning until brakes have been used several times.

Condition= usually high humidity areas= which builds up condensation/moisture inside drums which it causes the brakes to grap until water dissipates(vaporizes) .

Brakes that grap all the time is usually caused by brake fluid or gear lube from differential/rear axle gettinmg into drums.
