2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission brakes lock up when truck is cold

on my 99 every once in a while when my truck is cold i will barely touch the brake pedal and the rear brakes will lock up... when it does it it lasts until i drive it about 10-15 miles. its a little surprising to me but it scares the h*** out of people that im passin. any body know what would cause this to happen?

just making a thought here, but do you park it outside everynight? and does it happen only in high humitidy weather? mine does the same thing but only when the brakes are a little moist or have a glaze or rust on the drum.

My truck does the same thing when I leave the parking brake on over night on a cold night.

ya i do park it outside every night but i live in nevada so theres not a whole lot of humidty its pretty dry... im glad to here other peoples trucks do it to

I had a 99 and the brakes were always very sensative the first couple of time you used them in the morning but I never had a lock up. A small brake fluid or axle lube leak into the drum will cause lock up. bg0

My 98. 5 does the same thing, not locking up, but REALLY touchy for the first few applications after start-up. No leaks into the drum so it must be a hydroboost issue.

My 99 2500 did that. It was always touchy but it would lock up till it was driven a few miles. Replacing the shoes and wheel cylinders did the trick. The old shoes were not original and were cracking up.

My first 01 would do a similar thing. I have to reverse out of my drive, then turn 90 and go forward. I thought it may have to do with adjusters in rear drums. First stop at stop sign at the end of my road was rear wheel lock up. Then never any other issue. I too thought is was hydro issue, but never had enough of a prob to replace. Good luck

I Have The Same Problem When It Rains Or Even Sprinkles. Now I Just lightly Push On The Brake For The First Few Feet After Taking Off The First Time Problem Solved.
