Is there a proportioning valve on my '92 W250?

I'm just wondering if there is a relatively inexpensive way I can beef up the brakes on this thing. I was reading Bill Swails Earthroamer site, and he mentions eliminating the proportioning valve on his '98.

Of course, he'd lifted his truck a little, making the valve think it was lightly loaded. Mine is completely stock, but even completely empty the brakes really blow chunks (they get only slightly better when I adjust the rears by stopping hard in reverse).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

hey midnite, yes you do have a proportioning valve. it's right under your feet on the inside of the frame. if your brakes really stink, check the vacuum booster. they can go out. check for vac leaks. just start the engine and wait till the ' brake light goes out then shut it off and push on the peddle and listen for a hissing sound. if you hear one, the booster is shot. also check to see if you have 3 inch wide shoes on the rear brakes and not 2 1/2 inch. also, if your peddle is mushy and goes down 2 inches or so befor the brakes apply the ABS valve in the rear is on it's last legs. hope this helps you to start going in the right direction. good luck.

Midnite,
I find that the rear brakes on my truck don't seem to adjust themselves properly by backing up and stopping hard. I jack up the back end and adjust them manually.
