Hi 2nd generation people, I'm from the 1st generation group, have a friend with a 1996 2500 4 x 4, tells me he has a brake pulling problem. Said he has checked the usual pads, rotors etc, any suggestions? He has just this week had an exhaust brake fitted plus a transmission torque lock and pressure lock kit, loves it, 235 hp and 500+ ft lb on the dyno. He let me drive it about 30 miles, all I can say is when the 1st generation gets retired, I want one.
Thanks in advance.

Most of the time the pulling problem is caused by out of adjustment rear brakes, the self adjuster are not to be trusted, it should be done by hand at every oil change. Easy 5 minute job.

I've been putting up with a brake pull to the right for a while but today I set out to solve it. I have done the rear brake adjustment several times in the past with no success. This morning I replaced my front pads (even though they were less than half gone at 40k miles) with Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads. I removed and lubricated the caliper bolt slides/bushings and slide surfaces on the top and bottom of the caliper with high temp synthetic brake grease. Took it for a test drive, no pull!!

Again, I only did this today so I don't know if it is a long term fix or not. But... so far so good.

Don't forget about those pesky caliper pins. When ever brake pull starts, pull 'em out and clean 'em all up. Grease 'em good and stick 'em back in. 9 times out of 10 the brake pull goes away. They are suceptable to getting road grime and grit on them keeping them from sliding smoothly.
