I’ve got 40,500 miles on my truck, since about 38K+ the brakes squeal for the last 40-20 ft of my stopping distance. I rotated my tires a short while ago and noticed quite a bit of material still on the pads. What is making the brakes squeal like this? I thought these trucks go quite a while on the stock pads, just trying to get some clarification on the subject thanks.

Not many complaints or posts about any brake noise on these trucks. Imbedded sand, crud etc. can cause squeal. Light braking all the time etc. Try a few HARD stops from say 50 mph to 0 sometimes helps clear depris thats imbedded in pads.

Brake squeal is a vibration..... that high speed vibration makes the squeal that you hear... If the pad is not locked into the caliper, or the caliper is loose both can contribute to a squeal... . also glazed over friction can cause this... Since most of these trucks don't have a problem, I can assume that the friction is the right grade, with this information I have the following suggestions.....

1 - pull the pads and rough them with 24 or 36 grit sand paper..... just put the sandpaper on a flat surface and scratch the pad surface...

2 - go to your friendly autoparts store and purchase a small bottle of any squeal lube and put it on the back of the pad where it contacts the piston... .

3 - blow all the dust and dirt out of the rotor, piston, piston to caliper connections and use a dab of anti seize where metal to metal moving parts touch... .

4 - put it back together making sure that the calipers float smoothly on their mounts. .

All of the above are needed to prevent your noise... . hope this helps.....

my stockers never squealed. but my napa ones are (and fad early). While playing around on the highway the other day I did some good hard breaking from 100+ to 50 a few times and that seems to cure the squeal's for now. I'm assuming my is break dust as well. .
