Started my truck this morning after it sat for five days. Got an "abs" lamp and a "brake" lamp but the brakes work just fine. I don't have my service manual with me. Is this a blown fuse? If so, where? Thanks for any help.

I've had the same thing. Mine is an intermittent failure--the lights come on, I shut the truck off, wait a few minutes, start it up again, and it looks just fine. I finally got it to stay on consistently, so I brought it to the dealer. They said the code that was set was marked as "old" by the ECM (I think I was being fed BS here) so they reset the ECM, which turned off the lights, and sent me on my way. They told me to come back if it happened again.

It has happened again, but again it is intermittent. I can't get the lights to stay on long enough to get to the dealer.

I think I recall reading something about this being caused by a bad rear wheel speed sensor. I couldn't get my dealer to check mine. They said they have to follow their flowchart based on customer complaint and the codes set in the ECM. If they went straight to checking the rear wheel speed sensor, and it was not the problem, they could not charge DC for the work under warranty because they did not follow their prescribed protocol.

Kind of makes you wish you didn't know any better. The dealers' programs are designed around ignoramuses. (ironic, I probably just misspelled ignoramus... . )

Brake

I had a problem similiar to yours. When it first happened both the brake light and abs light would come on & off intermittently. Finally the abs light came on and stayed on. I pulled the fuse (in fuse panel left side of dash), checked fuse and ok. When I reinserted the fuse the light went out. When I was coming home that day I did a hard stop, couple of times and my rear brakes would lock up(did this in a remote location so no one around if things went wrong). I live in the country. The manual says that the brakes will still work just won't be abs. Took mine to the dealer and they said bad rear sensor. Replaced and everything is now fine. The mechanic also told me that some times the sensor can pick up trash and this will cause it not to work properly. If you can get to a location where you can do what I did then you should be able to determine if rear sensor bad. Good luck.

I had a light come on because I srtarted the engine with the boost sensor unplugged. IO finally cycled the ign. switch like on off on off then on and it went away. I also had intermitten ABS light last year on a trip, when I got home, took it in and the bearings in the rear end were going bad, (metal particles were collecting on the speed/abs sensor in th ediff. I pulled the level plug and it was covered with metal particles. Hope yours has a happier conclusion. bg
