I have a '92 250 with a Cummings (extended cab). I have noticed that when I slow down to make a stop my brake pedal feels hard: I really have to press on the pedal to get the truck to stop. My brake fluid level is ok, and I don't see any leaks. This problem seems to be intermittent. The truck has only 62,000 miles--mostly highway miles. Thanks in advance.

Wadester,

It sounds like your brake booster is going. If your really have to push hard to stop, and the pedal is not falling, I would check the booster and all of it's connections. Also, the vacuum pump could be going, or one of the lines might just have a small hole in it.

I am having the same problem as you. When it is below 30*F, the brakes work good if you mash them, but just feathering them they get hard or if you are setting a stop, the pedal gets hard. Anytime the brake pedal turns firm, the brake and ABS light come on. I have replaced the hose connecting the vaccuum pump to the booster. It helped some, but sure didn't fix the problem. I just ordered a vaccuum booster and master cylinder combo from NAPA for about $190. I will let you know if this fixes the problem. I don't see how it could be anything else.
