2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brand New Member and CTD Owner

Hi All,



I am a proud new owner of an 01 2500 Automatic Long Bed with only 36K miles. I would appreciate anybody's advice on what things I should be on the lookout for to do to the truck. I have had powerstrokes in the past and have made the jump to a Cummins, as I have wanted for a long time. Can't wait to play with a real Diesel!

Suggestions for '01's.



1) Put a fuel pressure gauage on to make sure that your lift pump is working and so you know if it goes south. While you are at it put on a Exhaust gas temp gauge and Boost gauge. gauges in general are great for heading off problems before they get too bad.



2) Look at upgrading your fuel system with either a pusher pump or with a new pump lke a FASS or Airdog type system.



3) Might as well change your fuel filter while u are at it, never know how it was maintained by previous owner.



4) Change oil/filter (see #3 above).



5) I run all synthetics for EVERY fluid, that choice is up to you but that was the way I went. With my bypass oil filter and synthetics I have aprox 30k miles on my current oil.



There are lots of other stuff, but that is the NEED to do stuff that comes to mine right now for a new owner.

You have already bought the best upgade for your truck by becoming a TDR member! Its is money well spent!

But anyways, I second the fuel pressure gauge! It is a requirement on a VP44 truck! Looking into an upgraded lift pump is a real good idea too they could have saved me lots of cash if I had either to begin with. With such low miles you should be in good shape for a while, but one of the best things to do is poke around this site for about month and then youl have an idea of the common problems and the best ways to deal with them. Just learn from everyone elses expeirience

the only thing I can add is never drop off your truck for service

stay with it and don't let the service guy's joy ride / hot rod it

tell them if you need to drive my truck come get me and i'll ride with you

I have learned the hard way

I never let my truck out of my sight

at a shop

some of these shop have some real bone heads working there

enjoy the truck and the site



ps if you need to leave the truck overnight pull the starter relay

it's under the hood in the black box behind battery on the drivers side

on the back side of the top it will show you where it is

that stops all the BS

and be there the next day when they open

Thanks for the warm welcome - so good to hear so much pride out there for our folks in uniform. I am proud of the Marines I serve and the sailors that help keep them in one piece - they deserve all our respect.
