I drove my 90 DCT for 12 years, sold it and bought a new SLT

HO, 48RE. I crawled under it today and looked around and saw the oil plug. 3/8" ratchet fitting?? is that right. Oil filter not too easy to get out without an oil bath!! I only saw one grease zerk near the drivers side front wheel. Things have really changed. The last time I had the dealer change my oil, they put in 10-40 Quaker State in it like it belonged. Should I change the plug to one offered by Geno's. Any tips on how to get the oil filter out without getting drenched?

How do you get the truck profile to appear at the bottom of the post. This is my second post and it didn't appear in the first!

Thanks for your patience!!

Yeh the fitting takes a 3/8" ratchet . The best way to remove the filter without a bath is to slip a large freezer bag over it before taking it off. This helps to contain the oil. One more thing be careful to not overtorque the draiin plug. ;)

At the top of the page, you will see a "button" that says "User Control Panel" in it. Click it and then click on "Edit Profile". Enter your info in the "Signature" box as you want it to appear on the screen.

After that, the screen that comes up when you post, look at the options near the bottom of the sreen and check the box that says "Show Signature"

Changeing oil filter

Just changed the oil my 03 today. I let the crankcase drain for a long time and when I finally got the factory installed filter loose I turned it off slow and never spilled a drop. Much easier to do from the bottom than the top like the old ones.

Greyhackle, congrats on your new truck. I don't however think that 10w40 quaker state is the proper oil for your truck though. I could be wrong but I dont believe that's a CI-4 rated diesel oil. If it is, my bad, but make sure you have a DIESEL specific oil in there, preferably with a CI-4 rating on it... popular choices are delo, rotella, delvac 1300, etc... .

Thanks bmoeller, with any luck my truck profile will show up this time. I guess the only options I don't have would be the leather, the adjustable pedals and maybe the 6 cd changer!

I should have said, the last time I had the dealer change my oil was in 1991 and he put the 10-40 in the 90 Dodge. I drained it and put in PB and used it with filters I purchased at the Cummins shop. The truck did not go back to the dealer!!!

I appreciate the replies and the welcome!
