What is the prefered break controler? Somebody recomended the Tekonsha Voyager 9030. Any comments? Where is a good place to mount it in an 4. 5, with a 6 speed? any info appreciated thanks

Craig

I've got a prodigy. Can't complain about it. It works pretty well. In my 05 I've got it mounted on the dash kinda below where your right knee would be if you scooted the seat up and touched the dash with it.

Prefered/best/etc... sort of depends on the load, value per $, places it might get used etc...

I run the Prodigy and love it! Would never go back to others that I've had. Same mount ^^^

The "preferred"? That's a good question for the Towing Forum ;)

The "best": Jordan, BrakeSmart, Tekonsha Prodigy.

Each has its following but all will agree that these are the best of their individual types.

Over on the RV.net forum the Prodigy was highly recommended, so I went that way. It is true "plug'n Play" on our trucks. Buy it with the Dodge wiring harness and installation is under 15 minutes, including drilling two holes in the plastic lower section of the dash, just forward of your right knee.

I perfer that location so that I can follow my leg, just past my knee, and quickly find the controller without taking my eyes off the road. If you need to find it in a hurry, you will not want to be looking around for it.

After I set up the controller for my rig, the Prodigy has performed flawlessly. Others like the BrakeSmart are very good also, but more expensive and I don't think as easy to install. Prodigy does not work with hydraulic-electric brakes on some trailers. Not too many trailers have that kind of braking system.

A properly loaded trailer connected to a properly optioned truck and controlled by a high quality brake controller is much less stress on the rig and especially the driver!!

I have run my Prodigy in my 01' and now my 05' works great. I pull a 27' toyhauler with 1600# of Harley's in the Rockies with no problems. I've mounted mine on the bottom of the dash above the right knee.

I installed the Tekonsha Voyager, $69 yesterday. Plugged the connector in and connected 4 wires to the Voyager. 4 strips of 3M adhesive tape right in front of my right knee. 15 minutes, done. And the box sais "Made in the USA" unreal.

Why is this better? What are things to look for when shopping for a controller? I'm looking at replacing my Voyager (went on my 02' when I traded it) with another Voyager. That was the only time I've used a controller and it was what the RV dealer installed when I bought my RV.

Prodigy for me! I have had numerous controllers, all electronic, and by far the prodigy is the best, for electronic. I have never used or been around a brakesmart, but if you would want to go thru the work, which most I think don't. I think they would be the cats meow!!! But for the time and simplicity the prodigy is great!!! Just me thoughts!!! ;)

I like the way my brakesmart works compared to the others that I've used.

I mounted it under the steering column, I can't read the display but I don't have

to lean over and take my eyes off the road to reach the over ride control.

BrakeSmart. While it does take just a tad bit more time to install, it is definitely the best. If I didn't go with BrakeSmart, then it would be Jordan.
