exhaust brake on 2010 Megacab

Cummins Diesel Engine Warranty

I just purchased a 2011 2500 CTD 2wd Laramie. What is the best method to break it in?

Should I load it with say 1K and carry that around? It now has 1200 :) miles.

I used to follow the manufacturer recommendations up until 2001 or so. I noticed every engine would use about a quart of oil between changes. On my motorcycles, I noticed stock to stock friends bikes were faster. Now depending on the type I do a much harder break-in procedure. For trucks like ours you need to let the rear-end lash for the specified time before towing. But I would drive it HARD unloaded. Not like a jack@@s but no babying. My truck maintains the same oil level on every change and thats the way I broke it in.

the BEST way to break in an engine though is on a dyno.

No engine break in is specified or recommended. The only limitation is no towing for first 500 miles to allow differential to wear in.

Drive it as hard as you wish and load it with anything you want to haul or tow. You can't harm the engine unless you overheat it and that is hard to do.
