I just got my 2004 Dodge Ram TD Quad Cab 3500, long bed, single rear wheel truck. Wow. I'm impressed.

I know what the book says, but I'd like to hear from you about the break-in period. What's the very best way to break things in, and how long should I go prior to the first oil and filter change?

Also, what do you recommend for oil and filters for my truck?

Thanks, Willie.

Take it easy for the first 500-1000 miles and vary your speeds. Don't tow till after 500 miles. Enjoy your new beast!

I use Delvac 1 5w40 synthetic and also recommend amsoil 15w40 hdd/marine oil. I am switching to D1 synthetic at 15k miles. Until then, I'm changing at 5k intervals using Delvac 1300. Once I install delvac 1, I'll go 10k or 15k between changes. GOod luck!

The same advice that LightmanE300 mentioned. Except I run the dino oil Chevron-Delo 400 15w/40, and use the Fleetguard Strataspore (#16035) oil filters, you can buy them at Geno's, they have good prices. Have not changed differentials fluids yet with only 13,000 miles, will probally use the Valvoline synthetic 75w-90 when I do. Having a auto I will use the Mopar ATF+4. My first oil change was at 5000 miles and I will keep that service interval, fuel filter every 10,000 unless I happen to get a bad tank of fuel. Hope this helps, and congrats on the new ride. :D
