Has anyone had this issue, drive the truck on a hot day park it engine off and the break lights stay on? I've found the powersteering resavar pressurised when I remove the cap and let the pressure off the lights will go out. I've tried a new cap same issue. Is the break light switch out of adjustment? If so how does one adjust it?

To adjust the brake switch; depress the brake pedal, push the brake switch in towards the pedal arm, release brake pedal, let it push the switch back out. You now have adjusted your brake switch. If the switch moves very easily, replace it.

reservoir

It's not the switch. Pressure in the ps. Res. Is holding slight application of the brakes. Do the vent mod.

I'm not trying to be difficult but how is the power steering connected to the braking lights? Makes no sense to me. The power steering system has its own reservoir (ATF+4 or power steering fluid) and the brake reservoir (Brake fluid) has its own and mounted in two different locations and do not connect in any way. How does relieving the pressure in the power steering effect the brakes? Someone please explain.<O:p</O:p

The power steering fluid is used to power up the brake boost accumulator (hydraboost) so my guess is that back pressure on the power steering reservoir is allowing the boost to be partially applied allowing the brake pedal to move enough to activate the brake light. That's my take on it, may be wrong. bg

That's what it's doing. seems that the pressure in the resavar is just enough to hold the break form returning to full release. Soon as you open the cap you'll hear a pop as the pressure is released and the lights go off. Now as for the switch, what part do I slide tward the fire wall? I just see a plastic box with a plundger and no adjustments

Likely if you do this PS cap mod, you won't need to adjust the switch--

Thanks, this is my first Diesel been a gasser for years. Learn something new every day:).

If I am not mistaken, there was a recall in 08 to have the cap replaced for blowing off. Check with your dealer.

There is a recall on the newer trucks but not for my older truck. Parts are diff, at least that's what Dodge Parts man said..... I will try the Cap Mod soon as I finish my breakfast. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, That's why we'r all members here.

There is NO adjutment on the BRAKE light switch.

It is removed and installed by turning approx 1/8 turn and a release lever is used/disengaged to activate the switch AFTER installation.

They can not be reused.

If you take it out it MUST be replaced.
