The Rand McNally Motor Carrier's Road Atlas is available in two different formats. You'll likely find the glued edge bound edition at Pilot truck stops. The other is a spiral bound laminated version also available at Pilot but not in as many places as the regular one. Amazon is always another option too.

I used alcohol markers to write "J", "P", or "W" at exit locations to tell me where a Flying J, Pilot, or Williams was located.

Both have the low overhead information that you are interested in.

The problem with website fuel locators is that you have to have a computer and an internet connection... ... ... . while on the road that don't work out to well:rolleyes: . Yeah I know, if you plan ahead and all of that, but I enjoy looking at a map, finding a road, and GOING. No idea where anything is, no idea where I'm going. I've found some of most favorite spots that way. The GPS is great at finding a fuel stop where I'm located, at any point in my travels. Next step is an auxillary fuel tank.

Thats what mobile internet was invented for  I use Street Atlas USA with my laptop not only does it have all the stops for fuel food, lodging etc. but it also allows me to connect to the internet and get up to date traffic weather and construction for my route. Heck the adapter for my cell phone was only about $30 or so plus I can check my e-mail :)

MCrossley- wireless internet is a wonderful thing indeed... ..... until you get outside coverage area:rolleyes: . You get out in the sticks and some secluded canyons and all you have to use is what you brought with you. No cellular reception here!

Good point though, but it won't solve all your problems.

Now Satilite Internet... ... ... ... . That would be nice.

well this is indeed true however like you said that is when the sat internet connection is realy hand... you know for only $5k you can now get 2 way mobile sat internet service from direct tv? little big for the roof of the ram but the trailer now that is doable...

I heard one time atleast in Minnesota any bridge under 15' clearance had to be marked. I've watched since and have seen signs all the way up to but not over 15' so my sources must be right.

Just recently on two overpasses near my home, signs have appeared warning of 12'2'' clearance. As far as I can tell they are just the same as they have been for years. My guess is that they are about to work on them and the clearance now is higher. I'll bet there are some anxious moments when some people see those warnings. This is on 101 in CA, major road. I'm going out to measure the camper now.
