Been doing lots of research on upgrading the very dim headlights of my 99 3/4 ton.

Has anyone found a dual filament bulb that is brighter? I probable will go the sport

route, but will try all cheaper alternatives first.

Thanks

dont blame you for wanting to try cheaper alternatives first, but if your trucks in good shape and your planning on keeping it a while longer, I'd do the sport conversion, well worth the money. With the wiring harness and new headlights think it was slightly less than $300. I tried several different headlight restore products with mixed results and different(expensive) bulbs that dont have very long life. I wish I would have done the conversion from the get go and saved myself time and money, results are amazing, also makes the truck look new again.

The sport conversion is pretty much the only up grade that makes a significant improvement and is legal in all 50 states

I have switched to PIAA Extreme White bulbs. They last a long time and put out considerably brighter light than stock. They can be ordered through Amazon at a lower price than retail. I too tired of cleaning and defogging my standard lights and changed to Anzo units. The lenses are clear and not fluted, and though the beam pattern takes some getting used to, with the PIAA bulbs the light is much superior to stock.

Whichever lights you decide on, definitely go with the PIAA bulbs (and insure they're properly aimed)!

I'm on that fence too. tried cleaning up the lenses and replacing bulbs, and while they were definitly clearer, they are a long way from acceptable. I does keep my speed down though.

I was also on the fence, my headlights were getting worse and worse. I did not want to do the sports package, but annual polishing was losing it's 'luster', pun intended!
Geno's has headlights for my 97 for $85. 00 each. Geno's is pretty meticulous about checking their products so I got two and put them in, BOY am I impressed! I did not know how bad they were until I did a side by side comparison. The whole thing takes about an hour, even with my arthritis! I also chose to cover them with headlight film from LMC truck, I'm hoping that will keep them from becoming dingy for years to come.

Just saying, glad I went with new headlights, and glad they were readily available.

I'll definitely give a report on the film, it is NOT cheap. I figure my truck is now 16 years old and the headlights may not be available all that much longer, so I was trying to make sure they live as long as possible!! In case anyone is interested, I'll post a picture of the film used.

Wher did you get this stuff as I am very interested?

I got that from LMC truck, it is www.lmctruck.com if you want to go there, their part number is on the bag in the picture if you want to look it up that way.
I think you can buy it directly from XPEL and their web address is as simple www.xpel.com.
I'm hoping it works as advertised, but the jury is still out on that.

Good luck,

George

Sooo, received the new 'sport' headlights from ebay seller. but haven't heard back from suvlights. Is Stern the next best source for the heavy duty harness?

I really appreciate all the help here.

Issues own harnesses using all factory parts but I had a very good parts guy back then

No I have no experience with them. Just letting you know you can build your own if you have the time and skills needed

I bit the bullet and put in the Sport Headlights. Mechanically it was very easy. Electrically, it was a bit of a challenge. I rewired the entire circuit so the headlight switches would trip relays and then in turn the relays would turn on the lights. I used #12 wire for each high and low and #10 for the ground. That way later if I want to run both high and low at the same time it will minimize the voltage drop. If you look at the Daniel Stern chart, voltage drop is a big issue on brightness. Those little # 18 and #16 wires are not really meant for 10 amps. Anyway it all works great with no issues. But if you are at all electrically challenged, you should get some help.

PS The lights are bright and so much easier to see with !!!

Khuthens,

I looked on amazon for the bulbs, do you know part # for the one you r talking about. I dont want the blue lights and some of them dont state specifically if they are. Were the ones u put on white??? Also the pair of found are like 62 bucks, does that sound right??

Thanks

Received the headlights on Tuesday. did a google search (had to dig) and found an email for Daniel Stern.

sent him a message last night, and had a reply today. Ordered a custom harness... yes it was expensive... . but

I will know it is right... . If I did it, who knows what would happen... . My mechanic said I was the only person he

knew that could put a bulb in backwards... . and have it kinda work. .

So... can't wait. Also having the drivers seat redone and reinforced... . will seem like a new truck!
