Yes, can't disagree very strongly. And more tree hugger-imposed punishment for diesel light truck owners is in our near future.

Soon we will begin reading the cries of outrage here in the TDR forum by members whose trucks have been tested and failed. We all know that many trucks, even lots of new ones, are not capable of passing emissions testing. Even casual visual testing in some cases.

Depending on the level of tree hugger influence and desired severity of punishment in each state and region, many earlier trucks, particularly those which have been modified, may become victims of the Prius and bicycle limousine crowd.

Bob, I don't care if the EGR was not the problem, they replaced it under warranty. OK, whatever. . Im not going to argue with him. . The truck is over 3 yrs. old so the 3/36 is up. . the CCV was not covered but it said there was too much vacuum on the test for it so it was replaced. . also fumes/vapor went to the air filter and gunked that up. . Now the CCV was $143 + the air filter and taxes. . all in all I think it is good. . Most of the emissions is brand new now... They did run the computer diagnostic and did an extensive test drive to make sure all systems were running good.

No worries, just wanted you to know whats up

That used to be an advantage to owning a diesel..... Multi-purpose! Now you purchase a newer truck with all the fancy gadgets and plush interior and super-quiet cab so that you can enjoy it. Nope, not unless your hooked to a 20k lb trailer or carry a cord of firewood in the box everyday. Thx Obama!... ... ... . The flip side is that our older trucks are getting top-dollar paid in the used market!

With all that in mind, I believe I'll keep my 05 forever. It still has low mileage and so far it has been a great truck.

Clayton,

Yeah really. . almost makes me want to either go to a gas truck or a med. Duty Diesel truck... on that id be in the same boat. Looks like i need to get a fiat 500 for $15k to do errands

Actually the 2010 emission standards were created in 2005 under the auspices of the Bush administration. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of how things are going either, but lets be clear: all the monkeys in Washington are guilty!

Show off! Just kidding, I hope that '05 gives you a million trouble free, unchocked - breathing freely - miles.

AAAAAAAAHHHH-------THE GOOD O'L 12 VALVE. May she live a long unadulterated life. I'll live with the clatter, The great sound of power.

(got to rubb it in a little)

While I understand this thread is about the 6. 7 engine, let's not forget the innovation that came bolted to that engine. I had 6 new 6 speed manuals in a row... ... ... . but would not buy an automatic. But after 5 decades of swapping gears manually, I am in love with this 68 auto 6 speed. I have done everything I know thus far to prolong it's life. Mag-Hytec deep pan and Amsoil was the first thing I did.

All in all, I am very pleased with the 6. 7/68RE combo rolling 50,000 miles on it last year without so much as a burp... ... ... ..... have 110K on her now.

Just got the Mag-Hytec diff cover from Geno's yesterday... ... ... ... ... ... ... my next upgrade.

Excellent point. I'm a BIG fan of the 6. 7L and the wonderful 68RFE transmission. It's always pleasing to her from another well satisfied customer, especially considering the teething problems this new generation power plant went through.

The 68rfe is an awesome transmission. I didn't much care for the shift programming from the factory, so I got the Overdrive software from H&S (I was running their Black Maxx along with the EGR/DPF deletes) and it was a thousand percent better. Then I did something stupid, melted my underdrive clutches, and rebuilt my trans with the Suncoast clutches, valve body, TCM, and billet converter/flexplate. Their TCM programming wasn't as good as the Overdrive software.

Let's not forget that short trips are hard on ALL engines. I just worked on a 99 Camry that I figured would be pretty darned spotless since the only thing I found was an oil leak and borderline brake fluid - the owner says he changes his own oil every 3000 miles with Castrol Syntec. When I pulled the valve cover off I found it was nearly packed with sludge. What I could scrape off and pick up filled a 12 oz cup about 2/3 full.

Truck runs a whole lot better!. . I am keeping the R's up when driving around town and trying to at least get it fully warmed up before shutting it down. . Very hard to do lately when it has been 5 deg. overnight and 20 for a high. !! brrr!

Moderator, you can move this to the archive section now. Thanks.

If it isn't already enabled, have your dealer enable (or get a programmer that will allow you to enable) the fast idle. Turn the engine brake on and set the fast idle as high as it'll go with the brake on, and it warms up a lot faster.
