Archived Broke down in Blythe

I have a Brother broke down roadside in Blythe Ca, towing his house trailer.

Symptons, won't run.

No gauges.

Transmission no first, no overdrive,

Solenoid no power.

Would not talk to scanner yesterday at a transmission shop when it started acting up. When they unplugged the scanner it was working fine.

(So apparently this was acting up yesterday)

No A/C

No speedo

Apparently my friend says he jumped some relay and got it running for a few minutes and it died again?



This sound familiar?

Oh yeah, his truck is a '96 with an auto, pretty much the same as mine.

Appears so far several fusible links got smoked.

Check for fuses also.

Push the rod up on the "fuel shut off solenoid' with key in "run" postion the rod should stay up. The engine should crank up and run. If rod dosen't stay up make sure it is getting power if it is the solenoid is probably toast.



If Tach is not working along with AC speedo and overdrive you mite have problem with the "Engine Speed sensor" ( also known as crank speed sensor, crank position sensor). But if all gauges are out it is probably a fuse.

Apparently the fuel cutoff solenoid disintegrated after he had jumpered the relay. Stuck in Needles, Ca now. I told him to call Geno's for the parts.

Still cannot figure where the gauges feed from though.

If he has a problem beyond what he can fix, there's a shop that works on trucks (big) just off the I10 and 58. I think its called High Desert Diesel. There is also a Dodge dealer in town it Geno's can't help.

By the way I left out that the "Engine Speed sensor if not working will mess up the charging system.

As far as the gauges they don't get data from one source but several. They have several different grounds. Fuse 12 in the fuse box supplies power to a couple.



I would make sure that the instrument cluster connector did not come loose.

Yeah, he got a solenoid, found his blown fuse/s, cleared the ground faults, and got under way.
