Broke my Fuel Filter Canister Fuel Inlet Standpipe

OUCH!
Changing my 2005 5.9L Fuel Filter led to its "disintegration" and leaving the bottom of the Filter in the Canister.

I removed the PLASTIC Fuel Inlet Standpipe to remove the filter remains.

Could not really get the Plastic Standpipe to thread back into the base of the Cannister, lubed it, etc.
Finally thought I had it in and up the socket on it but in the process it broke/cracked before all the way seated..

Cheap Plastic Fuel Inlet Standpipe is a part no where to be found... but haven't been able to find a NEW 2005 Fuel Filter Cannister which would include the Standpipe either - Discontinued??

So far one junkyard may have a used one.

My first Ebay search was unsuccessful, but I did find some on a later search. Much worse looking than mine...
Genos suggestion looks good albeit could complicate installation and is intended as a supplement to the original filter /housing...
Truck is at the Shop and will see what they come up with or suggest too.

Definitely not a good idea, as the fuel would not be filtered adequately when it hit the cylinders. The Severe Duty Filter is secondary filtration and you still need the primary filtration for it to be effective.

Strangely this Fuel Filter Housing is a "Discontinued Part" and my shop was stymied. I bought a used one on EBay. I wonder if the Plastic Fuel Outlet Standpipe is not readily replaceable as it connects via "pipe threads" - Could that be why I could not get a Plastic part to screw back into the Aluminum Filter Housing??

Think about swelling of that plastic over the many years soaked in Diesel. Might also be the reason that it was brittle.

Yes, probably thats correct and the reason it wouldn't screw back in: From the Lasco Fittings website: "When mating to a threaded metal piping system, it is recommended that a plastic male thread be joined to the metal female thread. Since the two materials have different co-efficient of expansion, the plastic male fitting will actually become tighter within the female metal fitting when expansion occurs." I suppose after 14 years both expansion and deterioration are likely...

Used Filter Housing was installed by my Shop for $250 Labor... I was glad to have them do it since just removing the Filter as needed was enough of a challenge for me.
