Nothing is missing so far. But ill keep my eye out, im in the prosses of taking the head off now(damn manifold bolts)

thanks for everything,

Nasty! It looks like all your case bolts are there...

* 3 behind the cam

* the one up by the KDP

* the other down and to the left of the KDP

And the 2 bolts that hold the cam in are there. What did you do to fix your KDP? It's not tabbed.

I use a set screw in the side of the case

If you look at the pic you will see a blueish color at the base of the crack. It sure looks like it was over heated. Did you ever find out how the gear was installed?

I am awaiting a -mail response from autowurks to find out

Update!!

Here is a bit of an update

3rd cyl. and 6th cyl. have very little sharp edges on the top of the cyl. both from the exhaust valve (very little but i can feel it)

Michael

yeah, that'll happen when the cam is just sitting there holding the valves open... hopefully w/ the valves being vertical to the engine you didn't bend any

Michael:

When the barring tool stopped your engine, did it run after that? If it did run, did the ratchet get all bent up? Just lookin to see if there was enough stress caused by the barring. The flywheel is directly connected to the main, no? and if the main was rotating and suddenly stopped the cam still has mass moving, hmm more mass in the pistons. (low starting rpm prolly not any damage tho only a high stop)

Reason I think that, is if the gear was just weak from the improper heating, it would break under stress of high acceleration, then just freewheel and possibly not bend the rods. but it bent rods. hmm. . If the valves hit the pistons yea that'll do it also hmm how many did hit?

How/when did it occur? ya never did mention that :)

good luck

the engine never started, so it did not even make a rotation and did not bend the rachet.

wed. night i was driving home I layed into it in 5th gear once (just for a couple sec. ) then continued driving normal for about a min or two, then the truck started to die and would not stay running i put my foot into it and nothing, coasted to a stop.

and i did not hear anything because of course i was listening to my music a bit loud :-laf

Michael

Sounds more like the heat fatigue of the metal now. . Definetly mic out those valves, bet you damaged at least a few. .

well, hope it doesnt cost ya too much $ to get back runnin

Did you call autowurks on the problem? wondering if they admitted any fault.

I called them over and over, left my #, they said each time "OH THE GUYS ARE BUSY IN THE SHOP , CAN I TAKE YOUR #??"

I told the person who answered the phone that i have been calling and calling and they kept giving me the run around

i emailed them also and no response

Michael

Glad you found out your issue. It did look like a overheated gear to me. Its a great piece of mind to find out the reason behind the issue before reasembly.
