well while pulling a few horses up a steep grade I started hearing a high pitch sound. wasn't sure if it was the transmission or what. sound would go away when I shifted. then started making lots of smoke, I mean LOTS OF SMOKE. pulled over and there was so much smoke I couldn't see what was going on. I :) quickley got the horses out of the trailer and to a safe spot and waited for the truck to burn up of the smoke to clear. what I found was the turbo is gone. the nut came off the shaft that goes thru the center of the propeller. and things don't look good in there.

my question is could any of the pieces make their way thru the intercooler and back to the motor. or can I just put another turbo on and drive away.

I'm sure the turbo went out because we lost oil presure a couple of weeks ago when the dowl pin made it way thru the timing gear cover. oh what a fun couple of weeks we've had... :)

the likily hood of any thing getting all the way through the air to air is low if it looks bad it would be worth removing and dumping out. I just lost a turbo to and bought a switzer unit for 300+hp 4" out let and all for around $900 (mountanier diesel WV 304-766-6675) I'll have another $100 in adapting the down pipe. good excuse to up grade its lasted well and seen 37lbs boost often just a matter of time will you upgrade?

Runningbird,

I would strongly recommend removing the charge air cooler, pipes and hoses and cleaning them yourself or having it cleaned. When you get the new turbo on, the 1st time it starts to make any boost it is going to push all the oil/debris from the failure right into your engine. They don't call these engines "Oil Burners" for nothing ;) . If there is enough oil, the engine will runaway and can cause some serious damage. Just an opinion,

Dave
