Not on mine, but on my buddy's '99... .

Started getting low readings on the voltage gauge so he was checking out the connection on the alternator. On the plug going into the back with two wires (one blue, one green), he discovered that the green wire was broken right at the base of the plug.

Is there anyway to take the plug apart and reconnect the wire? If so, how does the plug come apart?? He said that he can see the end of the wire still in the plug, but it's too far inside to try to solder the ends back together.

I'd take a look at mine, but I'm in Florida for the rest of the week without my truck.

Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated!

P. S. He asked at the dealer about the plug, and they said he'd have to get the entire engine wiring harness for $500 to fix it..... :--)

Lots of times there is a small metal tab on the bottom of the metal connector that holds it to the plug, allows it to be pushed in but not come out. I've had luck slipping a thin blade under the connector and bending tab up while pulling the connector with needle nose pliers. Have never looked at the alternator plug in particular though.

Plug

Aggie Justin, with the plug removed from the alternator, look into the front of it, the wire terminals are in a "T" shaped hole in the plug, place a jewelers screwdriver or small paper clip into the bottom of the "T" as suggested by Illflem above and the terminal should come out the back of the plug. If this fails, go to salvage yard and get one from a wrecked truck, I suspect the gas rig uses the same alt. Dealer must be suffering from HIA syndrome. bg

Thanks guys, I'll pass the word along to him. I figured there had to be a way to disassemble the plug.

Not sure what the dealer is suffering from, they said they looked at all the possibilities and there was no way other than getting a new harness. And they weren't even going to provide the Vaseline.....
