Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Broken cam gear/ KDP still in place

Just ordered a new cam from Greg Hogue and a head stud kit. May have to hold off on the o-ringed head. Going to do some porting on the head at home w/ a die grinder. 3K GSK on the way as well.

Head gaskets aren't cheap and since you're already doing the porting you won't have to pull the head again.

the cam gear that broke is discolored in the center (where it snapped) as if it was heated just in the center to get it pressed on. Do they normally look like that? BTW, this is a Cummins remanufactured engine.
