broken fog lights

my 03 truck has 3200mi on it and when I was washing it I noticed both fog lights are broken .

am I just that unlucky that stones hit both lights or are more broken out there ?

are the lights in a bad place?

my 98 truck w/80,000 mi looks like the bumper has been sandblasted yet the fog lights are still intact.

Its cheaper to buy a driving light kit than to to buy just the two lenses. Expect to pay around $160. I wonder if anybody makes protective wire covers like they do for off road lights?
