wiredawg, 14 lbs? my rearend!!! Either I am very weak or when I removed my cap for the first time it was way tighter than that. I think the gorilla that put my cap on is the same one that is putting the oil filters on.
On good words of wisdom I now carry a cheap plastic replacement cap in my truck for the roadside fuel filter change. I bought it at Cummins for about $11. 00.
I didn't say it takes 14ft lbs to remove it, I said 14ft lbs to install it. BTW, make sure you properly lube the ring gasket with diesel fuel before installing it.
Apply the same principles (more torque to remove than to install) to virtually everything that you torque installing: the oil filter and oil drain plugs, etc, etc... .
Follow these instruction 'til the billit covers are produced and you won't have any problems.
Elite1, recieved your check today and socket is shipping tomorrow. Response was good enough to cover costs and get me a free socket Oo.
I still wish I'd have anodized them red. But, when you walk out on a limb, you try to make it as thick as possible. The bar of a aluminum was enough of a hit if I ended up stuck with a bunch of wasted labor and unsold parts... ... ..... a bill for anodized parts gathering dust would have just added to the frustration.
I just changed my filter for the first time a couple of weeks ago (dealer did it the first two times), and using a Crescent wrench and a strap wrench in concert (no socket hole in mine, thankfully I suppose) I was still afraid I would round off or break it, given the torque required to remove it.
