Fuel tank baffles broken?

I noticed that when I come to a stop, I sense something happening. Feels almost like the rear brakes were loaded and become unloaded, or like a slight feeling of being tapped from behind by a soft bumper.

I ignored this as I'm out of warranty and don't know what to look for.

Now I have noticed something else. When I pull away from a stop, it feels like the gas tank is loose and sways back when I step on the gas, or the rear springs are wrapping up. Just sems like something is happening about a foot after I pull away from a stop.

I looked for a broken spring. I looked for broken driveshaft u joints. I checked the transmition mount. Now I am suspecting it could be a problem in the transmission or a broken motor mount.

The truck is a 2000 3/4 ton automatic completely stock with 60k on it.

Any ideas what I should check?

I had a similar experience with my 96, at stop lights I would feel a thud, like a bowling ball had rolled against the wall of the cab. Then someone suggested that the baffles in the fuel tank might be broken. Well I had to change my tank anyway because of a damaged corner, so after my new one was on I never had that thud feel again. Just a thought.....

That sounds like a possible answer. I will have to see if it feels different with a full or near empty tank. You described it well. A padded bowling ball in the bed is what it feels like. I'm going to try changing the title of the thread to see if others have felt this.

Thanks
