Is there such thing of upgraded or "Heavy Duty" tie Rod end or complete tie rod kits with arms, rod ends, ect in the after market? My truck is an 11' with a production date of 5/11. I am now paranoid about the whole thing. This is not something I want to happen to me on a 7% grade, going down hill, pulling a 40' race car trailer.

I don't mind paying for an upgrade, I just want to be safe and drive stress free.

Any leads would be great.

From what I understand it is not a metallurgy problem, but an incorrect factory installation problem. (wrong angle).

Wow this is concerning, I gid the 08 steering upgrade last year thinking this was a much better setup. I know that the steering box was upgraded in 08, much larger sector shaft. May be over driving the stops and putting a lot of force on the tie rod joint?

The gearbox up sizing was not till 09 irrc.

Last years steering pkg up grade is fine it is the install that should be inspected. The outer tie rod ends need to be at the same installed angle.

I have an I phone app called clinometer that works great for a quick inspection of the angles. The factory has a little adapter plate that will rest on the end so a standard angle finder will work.

We did install them at the same angle and I checked and they still are. They appeay to have rolled about 10 degrees towards the front of the truck. When we installed the kit the tie rod unds were both at zero degrees.

NHTSA Recall

There is a recall on this...

NHTSA Campaign#11V350000

NHTSA Action# PE11009

Chrysler safety recall# L16

Go to Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the letter. Dealer told me that there are no recalls on file for my VIN#, but...

I'd like to see one of our aftermarket guys offer a super duty replacement. I tow an enclosed vehicle/shop trailer that weighs in right at my 10K towing limit. Last thing I want is a busted steering linkage.
