It has been at least a week so I guess it's about time I find some more damage on my truck. Well the latest happened when a child slammed the rear sliding window shut so violently that the black, plastic latch flew appart. It broke really good to. the actual plastic pin holder split apart causing the spring latch to fly appart. I can see that the latch is attached with some industrial strength glue onto the window. Does anyone have a clue on how to fix it?? Is there a kit?? How much?? I checked the search forum but after a few hours, I could not get the information I was looking for. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most auto parts stores have the glass glue for rear view mirrors, I would venture that they are the same product.

Broken rear window latch

Glue is no problem, i'm sure the local auto parts store will have something. I was wondering of anyone has ever attempted to remove the platic latch "base" without removing or breaking the window? Also if a replacement kit is available?? The latch shattered into "un-reglueable" pieces, some of which are lost anyways.

Go back to the dealer. It should be covered undered the warranty

The glass shops have a solvent that will remove the adhesive. I think the hardware stores also carry it.

Mopar will only service the glass as a unit. At least that was what I was told when I wanted a latch from the dealer.

I would contact a good automotive glass shop, surely they get requests for broken latches all the time?

Thanks John-K5AWO, Good idea, I'll talk to a glass man and see what my options are. I would hate to just leave it unsecured. Down hear in Miami, these trucks are popular with thieves. They can't steal mine because it's chained to an embeded ring deep in the driveway and secured with a square linked, hardened chain, but I still don't want to make it easy to get into the cab by just opening the window.

I think that under the circumstances you are describing, I would forgo the sliding window and have a solid 1 piece glass installed.

Increase the difficulty one more notch. That way, unless they are totally serious, they will move on to easier pickings.

At this point, I would just call my insurance co and get it all replaced correctly. That is why I carry a zero deductable on my truck. I still say, take it back to the dealer and try to get them to warranty it. Its worth a try.
