Sorry if this is already out there but I didn't see any hits on the search,... Has anyone had any luck getting FCA to replace the broken plastic POS top cap on these tailgates that breaks?? I have had my truck 3 weeks, and hauled one item that when sliding it out at home (new bath vanity for the wife) the cardboard box caught the edge and broke the plastic part in half at the mount. I normally wouldn't be so angry but I have never seen such a crappy design!. The plastic edge hangs off the end of the tailgate 1/2" and is it poorly attached at best... Also sliding the cardboard box over it gouged out the plastic like I took a finger sander to it (it actually left a burr).. My linex on my 04 could take shovels, rocks, atvs.. you name it, throw anything at it and it was OK> Fast Forward; I text'd the sales guy who said "call me with any questions anytime" well guess what.. 3 weeks / $80K later.. no dice, not returning the call. Truck now has a busted plastic part, and less than 1500m on the ODO. Just tell me if I am wasting my time or should I call the dealer sales / service manager?.. I haven't even filled out the customer satisfaction survey yet....

Cheers!

Yeah, I saw that at GENO'S, the 20 doesn't hold the water, just snaps off! o_O.... I just think its total BS for a $85k truck to break that easily, RAM should be ashamed of themselves... I guess I have to make it a $85K (+$25 frustration and shipping@!:mad::mad:)... I am going to read them the riot act when I take the customer satisfaction survey but I may call the service Dept and see what kind of good will they have

mumm.... Woodford is one of my favorites.

I actually like it better than the Pappy Van Winkle that I had one time (and only one time) in my life. Pearls Before Swine, I guess.

I know how you feel. Seriously. I pamper my truck. And I really like it. Whenever I go somewhere, I actually look forward to getting in my truck and driving. 5 minutes in traffic usually changes that.

I about had a heart attack when I got my truck off the lot and the rear main started leaking within days. Still didn't take the shine off of it for me, though.

The 2nd DEF pump kinda put me out a bit, however.

The thing is....... It's gonna happen. Wait until you get the first scuff or the first scratch. You've probably already seen things on it that made your heart jump until you discovered it scraped off with your fingernail.

BTW, I've discovered that my shrink was right.... Bourbon doesn't cure anything. But it does make you not care :) :) ;)

Sometimes a dealer will replace something like that as a "customer satisfaction" repair, basically eating the cost to make the customer happy.
But, it won't be a warranty situation, FCA will say it's your fault.

Go ahead and blast the dealer on the survey. If you nail them on it you can forget getting anything, ever. The broken part isn't the dealers fault. The dealers take the survery's very seriously as they can not appeal them if you blast them for something that isn't their fault.
If the part is really $25 (the 2018 was almost the cost of the Geno's I purchased) go down and talk to your service manager. Let them know you have the survey in hand and was wondering if they could help before you fill it out. If they can, great. If not, I'm not sure I would burn the bridge for $25, but that's just me.

meh that broken plastic is a bargain compared to what you get with ford. those tailgates open on their own and your luggage is laying on the highway

You're absolutely right sag2. Doesn't make it right tho on a "heavy duty truck", its kind of like the heater doors in my 04..NO DEFROST but passed the "40 point safety inspection" ..... crappy design / poor choice of materials, but nothing they can; but its worth asking so I'll head up there on Sat and see what they say. I would like them to offer a replacement part at dlr cost and tell me how to R&R it so I can do it on my own.

As for the survey, looks like it timed out so I guess I'll let it go uncompleted..... I really did not feel right about all the pressure the sales guy put on us to give them all 10s! I never give exceeds expectations and neither does my manager for me during my annual reviews:D. I think the sales guy did a good job but FIN guy.. no way,. they messed up my title so now I have to get it corrected (on my dime / time). and they didn't put my wife on the Max Care policy.. or even ask. So overall.. not 10, maybe 8... So I assume there is no harm in not doing it.

I have the Geno's tailgate cap thing.... It's not that great. It's different plastic that the OEM stuff, Really soft, Scratches easily, Different texture, Fit is not perfect.

Just my 2 cents

hahaha.. very funny... I get it..

I got a dealer quote today from my local dealer (not where I purchased it) almost 70$ parts cost for that (36$ for the part and $40 for the fasteners) anybody know how that thing is attached?

Not sure on the 20, but the 18 the Geno's directions say the clips will just break off when you pry it off. That is true if you just yank it, but I opened the access panel to get the broken clip parts out and then noticed you could squeeze the clips and get it out intact. I really didn't need another truck part hanging around, but I hated to throw away a perfectly good part too.
Pull the access panel and check it out first.
