I remember talking to a couple of fellows about putting a brownie on their trucks a while back. I'm to the point that I need to do something. Either put the brownie on or a US Gear underdrive. How did you manage to run the shift lever through the floor board on the brownie? Are ya'll still satisfied with the setup? I believe the brownie would give me the option to go under and over direct and be cheaper than just an underdrive. I also thought about finding a t-case to use as an under drive in the fields. That's the only place I need to drop the ground speed. It would be nice to have some sort of a gear splitter on the road though. Especially for the hole between 3rd and 4th. Let me know what you guys think. I'm leaning towards the brown-lipe. Probably be cheaper too. Don't hesitate to email me if it's a long post. I really need everybodies help on this one pretty quick. Thanks in advance, Jason.

do a search for user name Largecar or Large Car

he did something like that about a year ago or more. If the old posts are still available it might help.

A "Brownie" is an extra gear box made by Browne Lippe hence the name Brownie. Used a lot on medium duty trucks like flat beds, dump trucks, bobtails etc, they can be 2 speed, 3 speed maybe more I have only seen those two but a lot of different ratios available also depending on what it was used for.

I tried the LARGE CAR search last night, found a few posts by him but not relevant ones. I do remember reading his old posts, though. My big questions at this point are what ratios are available and the physical size of the unit (ie will it fit under a bed). Did some searching on the 'net, too, but didn't find anything useful. Something like this would also work real well in a 2wd if it had say a 2-3:1 low and maybe a . 7:1 OD, it would give you the benefits of an OD plus the slow speed manuverability of putting the t-case in low (ie for backing big trailers).

The ones I saw were about the size of a transfer casebut shaped a little different and I have seen them in pickups. They were popular back before gear vendors type transmissions were available

What about the Klune-V underdrive advertised in the 4wd mags? I believe it's a planetary set-up that is installed between the trans & xfer case & it's cable shifted.

Pretty pricey from what I remember. Don't know if they're available as an OD, either. I would mainly want to do this to get my highway rpms down.
