Hi all.

I need some suggestions on buying a full width brush/grill guard for my 92. I'm moving this summer, into an area infested with whitetail. I'd like to find a good functional brush guard, but is pretty as well. So, I go look in several catalogs for a nice chrome piece, including a master catalog from a parts store, but most of the listing I see are for the 2nd Generation Rams and not the First. Anybody have any suggestions for a brandname to look for that is fuctional enough to protect all the goodies behind the grill?

Mike, I have a Go Rhino grill guard and can tell ya, it should do just fine for those pesky whitetails. Believe it or not, we are heavily populated with deer here in NW NJ. I seldom pass less than 10 or more on the side of the road every night I drive home from work. The guard is pretty stout, though not the biggest and the baddest, the cost was only $400. 00 about a 1. 5 years ago. My buddy has one on a Ford gasser and he hit a whitetail at about 35 mph, zero damage to the grill guard or the truck.

They come in several styles, mine's just the plain ole powder coated black version.

Good luck Mike in finding a grill guard for a first gen. I could not find one for my 92(that look good). Ranch Hand has one, if you like that work truck look. I put one on my truck that is crome and looks like something like the one that was on the Dukes of Hazzard Charger. Not the tuff is thing out there(but might help a little)the next time I hit a cow, in the middle of the night.

Reunel Manufacturing is the place I would go. I have one on my truck and it is the best investment I have made. It is a complete bumper/ grillgaurd assembly, it was shipped about 300 lbs, painted, and ready to bolt on. It has tow hooks on it, mounting tabs for lights and all the hardware. They can also be ordered to mount your hilift jack, and a shovel on, mine has diamond plate on the top of the bumber, and there are other options too. You can now get them powdercoated, and this is what I would recommend, the painted version like mine doesn't look the greatest now after 4 years, but it can be sandblasted and powder coated when I redo the truck.

It looks real menacing in the rear view mirrors of the small car crowd. People tend to move out of the way quickly when I'm in the hammer lane on the interstate!!!

Thanks for the info! I really appreciate the comeback on the suggestions. When all the catalogs only list 94 and newer, I knew I was trouble. Now I got somewhere to look. Sounds like the Reunel is a serious piece. Here in Idaho, I've seen bagged whitetail in excess of 300 pounds! It would be nice to get the beefy protection from the from that size of critter and not to mention a stray lowrider or two:D Thanks for the help!

I live in whitetail country too and opted to build my own. My dad and I built one out of 2" schedule 40 pipe with weldable 90 degree elbows and had it powder coated red. I could possibly send digital photo's if you are interested in a design (and if I can get ahold of a camera). Also there are three companies locally that I know build top quality grille guards or grille guard / bumper combos gauranteed to to stop deer, elk buffalo, grizzly bears or about anything else you could throw at it. I had about $200 in mine w/ powder coat the other are reasonable also. jamison Welding, Harlowton, MT406-632-4882, Reed's Welding Big Timber, MT 406-932-5328 or Magic City Welding Billings, MT 406-259-4541:--)

As you can see in my signature I have a Reunel bumper/brush guard. A little bit too much looking from the side but looks great from the front. Heavy with the winch so had a local spring shop add some leaves so I now have about one-half inch of front spring travel before bumping the rubber bumpers. Truck rides fine. Painted the same color as the truck and almost no rust after about eight/nine years.
