Competition Who's going to own up?

Good luck with the new stuff ;) . How do you get your brakes to hold 17-19 psi in low range?? Mine will only hold around 10-12psi before I have to let her go :D .

I have a Dually rear axle with the huge drums and high performance brake cylinders.

This is where I found the biggest gain in holding power. . When I switched from D70 disks to D80 dually drums.

Ahhh, I SEE, I guess my D70 drums are the culprits. Thanks again for keeping me on the "been there done that" path :D

You could see a big improvement with your drums though.

Check out www.egrbrakes.com Ask for their high performance shoes and cylinders. Tell them Garrett sent you.

Just go to autozone and get the wheel cylinders for a one ton, or you can even get them for a one ton chevy I believe. I think the 3/4 ton wheel cylinders are 15/16", the one tons are 1", and the chevy are 1 1/16". I am running the stock one ton Dana 80 wheel cylinders and shoes. It just starts to over power the brakes at 20PSI. Granted I was "standing" on the brake pedal to hold it. Dana 70 drums shoud hold you just fine. What is the rear end ratio you are running?? Make sure they are adjusted correctly. Lots of times the adjusters don't work very well.

I just break a LOT of stuff. . I could probably tear up an anvil with a feather without too much trouble.

LMAO now that funny :-laf :-laf

I was going to try my first pull next month but i think i may wait :(

You don't need to change them. 3. 54 is a good gear, you can spin out in second at the end pretty easy. To spin out in drive at the end with a decent set of tires, blocked suspension, and hanging weights with 3. 54 on a good track I would say you need 600HP or so. With a 4:10 you could do ti with say 550. Downshifting during a pull is still out for judgement. Some people say it is very hard on the transmission(like truck pulling is not:)) I have hit drive with my 3. 54 and spun out before, but I wasn't hanging weights. With 3. 54 you should be able to build some boost. May also depend on how much air your charger is moving at a given RPM and how tight of convertor. I am running the tightest converter that Goerend makes and I can hit 20 psi. I will post a video of my pull this evening.

That's some pretty serious twisting. Is that a pic of the Yukon axle? Why such long splines? They must have splined blanks and cut them to length. My Mosers were starting to twist so I upgraded to Mark Williams axles. They are nice pieces but a little pricey.

Yep, that is a new Yukon axle.

They told me I might need to cut them to length as the stock axles are 39" long while these were 39. 5". They fit fine though.

I'll check out those axles you linked to. Thanks!

Bobcat - have you tried a "lower traction" tire? Something that would allow more wheel speed in exchange for slightly lower traction? Not quite a cut pulling specific tire, but somewhere in between the cut tire and a M/T.

Good luck!! It's fun to watch your progress.

It's worth a shot. You're running out of new stuff to break.

My thought is based on the BIG hp trucks and tractors. They all run a low tread that allows them to maintain wheel speed and rpm and minimize the load on the drive train.

Good luck w/ the MT's

I have a set of 33" BFG MT's that are are at about 30%. . maybe that would help?

Thanks!

Garret I purchased a dang near new set of 33" Bridgestone Dueler A/T's (NOT REVO's) from Nick Hayes off his Modified Class truck this year. He claimed that they actuall hooked very well on most tracks, but I was skeptical at first.

:--) They made a believer out of me this season! They hook very well for a all terrain tire, and have the better driving manners of street tires. I have been able to spin them very easily on every track I have pulled on this year, but they still bite enough to get me on down the track. You should check 'em out Garret! ;)
